I really would like to have another pet. I already have an old dog (16 years old), a wild cat that is a bit too shy, a long eared rabbit and long haired guinea pig.
The problem is, they don’t give so much affection, and I really need some, certainly now that I’m in this years long depression… plus they are mostly kept by my mother and brother. (the cat only comes to me though. But eh just at some times)
I want a pet with some attitude, no fish or bird indeed. I want to receive much love and affection and be able to spend my time in them. So it’s no problem if they seek a lot of attention!!
The only exception is: no other dogs. My dog can’t take it anymore and would certainly die out of envy and sadness. (pity, I wanted a Bordeaux dog)
Oh and I have lot’s of space to keep them, so that’s no prob either.
Thanks already for reading =)
I have heard having a pet can add 9 years onto your life. I know all about taking care of cats and such, the only thing Im scared of is being too sad to play with her. I am ONLY 13 and was diagnosed with depression a few months ago!! and I really want a cat to keep me company so my question is.
Do you think getting a cat will help with my depression? Or atleast make me a little bit happier???
If you have experience with this, please check out my other question: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AoIU9MMYOh.Rby7uBXfujibsy6IX?qid=20061119143115AAOZZHV
Thank you.
There isn’t much time left, but what I am looking for is this: How in the world can a pet vet diagnose [and subsequently treat] pet depression? Is there some sort of behavior scare that he uses? Also, what is the protocol for prescribing medication?
I would like a pet to help out with my depression. No cats.No reptiles or arachnids. No hamsters either. I would like a pet that could mainly stay in my room. I would like a pet I can play with. I would preffer the smallest kind of dog possible, but, don’t know the different kinds. Not too fond of chihuahuas. I wouldn’t mind an animal like a ferret, but, that is too mischievous. Or a sugar glider, however, that takes too much of my time, since I hear they need your constant company. The pet would have to be able to take living alone for long hours every day.
Ok! My fault, I didn’t mention no FISH. But, I did mention a pet I can play with. Let me add to that a pet I can pet. He’d be alone only while I was at work.
Hey! I do have to work people! No matter what I get, it will be alone 9hrs a day. As for stayin in my room, that’s where I lock myself up every day.
I have chihaha and I need a pet card for her so i can take her everywhere with me because of my depression.
Has owning a pet made your life less stressful? Does it help having one during a depression?
My father’s dog of 13yrs is very close to passing away. In fact they took it to the vet to put it to sleep and changed their minds. My father has a lot of problems, severe pain from athritis, and depression. This death is going to hurt him so bad and I know he won’t feel right replacing the pet. So what are your thoughts on bringing another dog into the family? Anyone who has been though this, your answere are greatly appreciated, and thank you. I can’t stand to see anybody I love in pain.
A friend told me this.
Is it true?
thanks
I’m taking a quick survey for a paper I’m writing tonight - any input would be appreciated and even quoted.
So does your pet help you fight off depression or symptoms of depression? I know my dog does - my husband is halfway across the world (we’re both military - he’s in Belgium and I’m in the US). Not only is our dog a huge part of family but of the main reasons I got him was to keep me company.
So:
Do you feel like your pets companionship/affection is helpful and sufficient?
Are you less focused on your depression because of the amusement you get from your pet (funny, active, etc)?
Because of the exercise your pets needs (ex: dog owners, etc) taking your pet for walk or exercise - do you feel like you a are forced to be less isolated from the human world (ex. dog parks, pet stores, neighbors, friends, social gatherings like horse competitions or training)?
