Im 17 and going through depression and Im quite young, so its not like Im a 50 year old on meds. There is a different. (Not to offend anyone.) My depression has been killing me. I can’t take it anymore…everything is so scary and dull. All I think about is death, constantly all the time.
I have a therapist but it only helps so much.
Medication you gain weight, it stores in your body and I heard you have increased thoughts of suicide?
how do you feel?
It helps some, but I’ve noticed those that it helps usually aren’t really depressed, they have just hit a bump in the road and when the damage from that bump heals they recover. However, people who seem to have real difficulties, such as physical disabilities and lack of quality of life often get a reverse effect from the medication. I’ve been on many, and none of them made me better, they made me gain weight, made me feel more aggitated or high to the point of incoherency, and even increased my homicidal and suicidal thoughts, but those who have never been through it will beg to differ that these drugs are good for you. My daughter was placed on these drugs and they made her crazy, she started digging her legs with shards from pop cans, and I’m not talking scratches, I’m talking big gouges, she tried to kill herself by drinking bleach and she took her entire bottle of meds in an attempt to kill herself. Since we discontinued her treatment we haven’t had anymore outbursts such as these, she gets emotional occassionally, but that is a hell of a lot better than drinking bleach or trying to kill yourself. A friend trusted doctors to put her 9 year old daughter on these drugs and the drugs ate a hole in her heart. These drugs have never been proven to treat anything, and doctors don’t even have an accurate way to test for such disorders, it is all guess work. I’ll bet you didn’t know that one drug treats all ailments either did you, the same drug that treats depression, treats psychosis , anxiety, and yes, even schizophrenia. If you go to ten different doctors, I’ll guarantee you will receive at least 4 different diagnoses. I feel the people that create and prescribe these meds are no better than heroine dealers on the street. They claim the drugs aren’t addictive, but guess what, they are, and it is very easy to overdose on them if you get a quack doctor, it happened to me when he attempted to switch me from one med to another and had me taking both at the same time, which is very common. You can’t stop taking them unless you are weaned off them because you will go through withdrawl, get dizzy spells, faint, and it can cause serious conditions such as mental retardation. If that isn’t considered an addiction, I don’t know what is. The medication is stored in your body and released little bits at a time, that is why doctors insist you take a med for at least 2 weeks so your body is receiving an accurate amount of medication. I would advise against medication, however talk therapy does benefit many, if your having problems that is what I would recommend.
I’m 18 and I suffer from bipolar. I’m on zoloft, lithium, and (ambian (as needed)) and I know that it helps. The only reason a person would feel suicidal while taking anit-depressants is because the Mg isn’t the right dose. I know this for a fact because I ended up in a mental hospital twice. And each time they raised the dose. Dude I know that it may seem hard but sooner or later things will change. You may not feel like it bc of all the $h!t in your head. But just know that one day it will happen. And never, and I mean never stop taking your meds. Stopping your meds will in fact make you think about death even more.
It takes a while to find the right dose. I’m still on my 3rd dose change…sometimes you just have to try to live…yes I know it is hard.

I personally do not support anti-depressents. Prozac and other medicines in the "prozac group" (in other words just prozac replacements like zoloft) have been tested by many many many psychiatrists and doctors out there, yet their opinions vary so greatly. The FDA issued a statement once on Prozac. I can’t find it on their website but they did not speak very highly. I think that people and psychiatrists abuse anti-depressents, and I believe they make things worse.
The columbine shooters were on Prozac and one of their victims, Michael, testified against the drug companies in court before their lawyer was paid off by big pharmaceuticals.
A lot of lawsuits like that take place, but either the lawyers or the testifiers are paid off by big drug companies so we do not necessarily hear about them on the news.
Continue to see your therapist and if you are willing you can try alternative therapies like hypnotherapy, herbs, homeopathics, good diet, etc. Also something that has been helping my husband with his suicidal thoughts are the positive thinking excercises. I recommend you watch "You can heal you life" movie by Louise Hay of Hay House Publishers Inc. It is GREAT! (its also a book).
Yes but depression sometimes needs medication to help a person cope.. it is mainly the younger people who suffer from depression and for some types of depression it is best to take medication.. sometimes light therapy or something else works. we all know that the medication doesn’t actually cure the depression but it helps a person to function and also to get less suicidal and to be able to lead a normal life again.. for some people this is just a phase and they can get off the medication again.. once the stressor is gone from their lives and others depending on the circumstances need medication forever… It makes things better … but you should discuss this issue with your doctor and tell him of your feelings and also what your viewpoints are.. he will hear you out and he cannot force you to take antidepressiva if you don’t want to but he can evaluate and if he believes it will help you a lot you should try it…. xxx
Dont take any medication, try natural remedies. Such as, changing diet, natural herbs, and so on.
The depression medicine doesn’t really work. From what I see, and experienced, its more like, if you believe it will help it will, if you don’t believe it will, it won’t. Plus, with medication, you have all the possible side effects, all the damage done, and all the chemical changes it forces your brain to make.
Depression meds are alot like legal meth and such. You get on them, and its hard to get off them, and you will end up feeling worse then before, so then you have to have more drugs, and the end effect is you becoming a zombie of society.
I was depressed at a much younger age, like 12-15. I was so close to killing myself it was sick. And my parents both saw this cause they intervened without me saying anything. And the one thing my mom said was, "Act how you wish to be, and after a short time, you will become that way."
Oddly enough, it worked. Now nothing can even bring my close to being in the ballpark of feeling down. It all has to do with psychology. If you want to be happy, then be happy. Theres no one stopping you but you. If you want to live life to the fullest, then do it. You are you’re worst enemy, defeat yourself, and the world is yours. Give into yourself and take medication to fight, you lose the better part of yourself.
