Do you think its a disease or the symptoms of an underlying emotional/mental psychosis?

My friend of 25 yrs. started getting depression and was really stressed out with work and her bad romantic relationships. She was physical fit and exercised alot.

Over a two yr period she exhausted her health insurance with batteries of test that all were negative, got on medicare(fibromyalgia?), and was trying to talk her doctor into recommending a wheel chair.

She goes to a therapist for counseling but doesn’t work the programs he sets up for her…..she only wants to focus on finding something physically wrong. Im really patient with her but she seems to thrive on the negative attention and pity? people express of "her problems".

When I try to talk to her about her counseling sessions she gets bothered and a bit angry but if I mention her other doctor appts she gets eager and is more than happy to talk about them.

I’m starting to think she has an emotional/mental problem that is just taking its toll on her body.

Her family does have a history of emotional/mental problems although she won’t acknowledge it. One is anorexic and neurotic, another an alcoholic, another is morbidly obese.

to come out right for a hormone test? they said i had to be off it to get rid of any effects of the hormone pill (contraceptive) to show up in the test. i have been diagnosed with depression and coz ive always had problem with periods and puberty, i guess it could be hormone imbalance. the doc said it cud be too but they say coz im on the pill, results wont show right. i want to prove them its not depression coz i dont want to be on those anti depressants all my life. i want it sorted and now! why should i wait and make my self anymore miserable? any ideas how long to come off pill to show right results? thanx and sorry for the essay.

well iv had all the symptoms 4 pregnancy eg: been sick, missed peorid everythink. iv had 2pregnancy tests at 99%accurate from a supermarket, but now the both tests av *** bk negative im wonderin if it cud be depression r stress me and my boyfriend av been though a lot lately we almost split up n i was really upset by it

wat do u think please help im only 17 and cannot really go 2 the docters to sort it out bcos im not really old enough to go on depression tablets if it is depression should i go to the docters anyway

I have been treated for depression for a long time but felt the most improvement when I was put on stimulants for concentration and focus. Looking back I think that it was more ADD than depression. When I can focus, relax I feel tons better. I get heart palpitation with some of the ADD meds. Anyone with a good recommendation on meds that work well but without the least amount of side effects?

I’ve been on my present cocktail for more than 10 years now with few if any problems. Right now life is absolute hell–and believe me, I know clinical depression from the blahs–and I’m not sure why. I’ve got some outside stressors, but nothing unusual–so I’m wondering why now? What can I do about it anyway?

I think it is major depression, but according to some surveys it is only moderate depresson.

Signs of major Depression.
Major Depression is diagnosed when an individual experiences at least 5 of the following symptoms.
1. Persistent depressed mood for most of the day.

2. Loss of interest or pleasure in all, or almost all activities.

3. Significant weight loss or gain due to appetite change.

4. Sleeping more or less than usual.

5. Speeding up or slowing down of physical and emotional reactions.

6. fatique or loss of energy.

7. Feelings of worthlessness or unfounded guilt.

8. Reduced abilty to concentrate or make meaningful decisions.

9. Recurrent thoughts of death or suicide.

Individual’s 5 symptoms must be 1 of the first 2 symptoms on the list for diagnosis of major depression.

But they all are at different levels.

Im not sure how to take this.Is it also good that Im only having rational thoughts?
Im sorry, but I have decided not to seek help, I was just worried this would become worse, I was thinking that mabye it will just go away.

I also suffer from a high case of Schizotypal, which makes it harder to even care to tell anyone, and It makes me not care….so yah…..thats pretty much it

I am doing psychology homework and need help figuring out the answer to this question. Can a mood congruent delusion cause a symptom of MDD w/psychotic features? If a person has a delusion that is congruent with MDD which causes him to have a symptom of Major Depression, would that be counted toward a diagnosis of Major Depression with Psychotic Features or would it only be psychosis? For instance if a person had innapropriate guilt because he is delusional in thinking that he was hurting everyone around him just by spending time with them, does that count toward a diagnosis of MDD? The inappropriate guilt didn’t start until after the psychotic features started, and was a direct result of them. Thank you!

In the DSMV book, under the diagnostic criteria for Major Depression Dissorder, it says that if a person has symptoms that are mood incongruant, that are the effect of psychosis (rather than depression), which are symptoms of both MDD and other psychotic dissorders, the symptoms should not be considered toward a diagnosis of MDD, but the psychotic disorder. So, what if the symptoms are from a mood congruant psychosis? Could it be considered a symptom of Major Depression, then? What is a mood congruant vs. a mood incongruant psychosis?

There isn’t much time left, but what I am looking for is this: How in the world can a pet vet diagnose [and subsequently treat] pet depression? Is there some sort of behavior scare that he uses? Also, what is the protocol for prescribing medication?

I have heard having a pet can add 9 years onto your life. I know all about taking care of cats and such, the only thing Im scared of is being too sad to play with her. I am ONLY 13 and was diagnosed with depression a few months ago!! and I really want a cat to keep me company so my question is.

Do you think getting a cat will help with my depression? Or atleast make me a little bit happier???
